New Network member Guillermo Ramallo and Alicia Thompson have co-created a free, volunteer-run programme to help the Spanish-speaking community in Australia stay safe online.

Guanaco is a programme co-created by Guillermo Ramallo, a new member of our Network, and Alicia Thompson — both IT specialists and volunteers with the LatinOz organisation in Queensland. Its goal is to help the Spanish-speaking community in Australia protect themselves online.

The programme is supported by Argentina's Ambassador to Australia and, with that backing, has also won an Australian Government grant. The team currently includes members from Argentina, Uruguay, Peru and Australia.

Guanaco has a website and a podcast on SBS Spanish.

How to get involved

The programme is entirely volunteer-run, with flexible commitment (from two hours per activity) and the option to take part in person or online. You don't need to be a tech expert: they are looking for presenters, moderators for meetings and workshops, help with promotion and social media, and general organisational and logistics support.

"Join Guanaco!" flyer (in Spanish) explaining what the programme is, how it works and who they are looking for.
